Not the Norm  was created in 2016 by three Afro-Danes women with roots from across Africa; Aja from Gambia, Samira from Somalia and May from Uganda. Our beginning in 2016 started with a project titled, My Black Hair Story, which  showcased the beauty of natural African hair, as well as the social context and history surrounding it.

Not the Norm is a platform, a social enterprise and creative collective dedicated to telling and sharing the stories and experiences of black people. We are dedicated to celebrating and showcasing the depth in culture, and diversity but more importantly, the  perspectives, experiences and stories that need to be told and shared. Not the Norm also seek to function as a knowledge hub on the subject of culture and diversity concerning black people.
